Bonaire, Netherland Antilles
Bonaire has several thousand breeding flamingos, though they can be difficult to approach closely. However, this was one of a few which were close to the road in the southern section of the island.
Generally known as ‘pink flamingo,’ the species is American flamingo (Phoenicopterus ruber) and is found throughout the Caribbean, coastal Colombia and Venezuela, the Mexican Yucatan as well as the Galapagos Islands.
